The North East Bulls WRC were founded in 2002 by a group of people with spinal injuries, the club was orginally the Newcastle Bulls but later adopted the North East Bulls as players were joining from further affield. The club briefly joined forces with a local rugby union club and became Darlington Mowden Park Bulls, but have now returned to being known as the North East Bulls WRC after the decision was made to become a charitable association. The club is now looking to grow and expand its membership base, so get in touch if you wish to join us.
The rules of wheelchair rugby can be confusing, it is a mix of many sports which creates an intense game where full contact between chairs is permitted, but physical contact between players is not. Despite the fact that some collisions can look brutal, with players flipping out of their chairs, the game has safety at its core and the bulk of the impact from collisions are absorbed by the purpose built specialist wheelchairs that are used by the players.
