It’s been a busy week of wheelchair rugby for the North East Bulls as we prepared for the first division one tournament taking place in Stoke Mandeville at the weekend.
The group WhatsApp chat has been pinging every second as the new season’s important questions are answered and decisions have been made like, “Where are we eating on Friday night?” and “who’s doing the Subway sandwich run on Saturday?”
Mealtimes sorted; the team are looking forward to playing a few games with their weekend target set to score as many try’s as possible with a 2.0 point line-up! Low point rugby is the way forward, and our hope is that teams will be bamboozled by the slow-motion rugby we love to play. Watch out for Aran ‘double dribble’ Guthrie’s bullet like chest pass, as this will be the only element of speed during this line-up.
The bench will be stacked with talent though, desperate to get on court and prove the Udders are not all useless, as Fudge ‘the slug eater’ and newly classified Jess ‘the tree cutter’ will be eager to cause some mayhem, watched in awe by semi-retired Jonny “just one quarter” Collingwood.
In action this week also are Coral Batey and returning Bull Jack Smith who are in Paris for the International Wheelchair Rugby Cup where they will be holding up the GB team as they play against the worlds best. Coral and Jack will be hoping to set the bar high before the Paralympics next year and the Bulls will be cheering them on, unfortunately from home this time and not court side looking like they have been to a Union Jack gang bang. There first game is on Wednesday 18th October against Denmark, and you can follow the teams progress via the livestream and GBWR’s socials.
Good luck to the Udders this weekend, and to Jack and Coral also. Keep on Moo-ving.
